The
Old Pressing Yard houses have direct access to Porthmeor Beach,
however the houses are also a few minutes walk from the the harbour
and centre of St Ives.
A
door to each house opens directly onto the beach. The rear exit
of the houses leads to Back Road West and Porthmeor Road. The Penwith
Gallery, exhibition space to the Penwith Society of Artists can
be found immediately on Porthmeor Road. Further along Porthmeor
Road (to the right as you exit The Old Pressing Yard) can be found
the St Ives School of Painting, the Tate Gallery, the School of
surfing and the Porthmeor Beach Cafe. If you turn to the left along
Porthmeor Road onto Back Road East, you soon reach Porthgwiden Beach.
If you carry straight on over Porthmeor Road, you will quickly reach
the Harbour and Fore Street with numerous restaurants and art galleries.

The
nearest local store is the Norway Stores. This is quite a comprehensive
store, open until late in the evening and very close to the houses.
It's just right for milk and papers. On exiting the driveway to
The Old Pressing Yard, turn right and follow the Porthmeor Road
up to Back Road West. Turn right again and Norway Stores will be
in front of you. The store stocks a wide variety of food and has
a good range of Wines. If you enjoy cooking, items such as fresh
ginger, garlic, green chilies and lots of spices have been spotted
there recently.
Incidentally,
despite the name, the area does not have Scandinavia connections.
Norway refers to an area or road north of the town.

and Son, a great Fishmongers is located just around the block on Back
Road West. If you fancy a live lobster try here. The Fore Street Deli
is also well recommended. They often have a nice selection of Cornish
Cheeses, including Menallack, Nan Tarrow and Yarg. It's not a Cornish
Cheese, but Devon Blue has an enthusiastic following. The Deli is also
good for fresh fruit, olives and much more.
Five
minutes from the houses, on the edge of the harbour is the atmospheric
Sloop Inn, the haunt of artists and fishermen. They often have a very
nice Cornish real ale called Doom Bar.
The
Old Pressing Yard has its own parking, however additional local car parking
can be found at The Island Car Park. This is reached by driving through
the centre of town. Other car parks include the Barnoon Car Park, which
is reasonably close and the Coach Park above the town.
